Year 7 at St Joseph's College

Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone for both students and families. At St Joseph’s College Coomera, we understand that the move from primary to secondary school can also feel a little daunting. New routines, new expectations and new friendships all come at once – and feeling a mix of excitement and nerves is completely normal.

Our commitment is simple: every Year 7 student is known, supported and confident as they begin this important next chapter of their learning journey.

A Thoughtful Transition into Secondary School

From day one, Year 7 students are welcomed into a learning environment designed specifically with transition in mind. Students are placed in a learning group supported by a team of specialist teachers who take the time to truly know each child – their strengths, interests and individual learning needs.
This team-based approach provides consistency, builds strong relationships and helps students feel safe and supported as they adjust to secondary school life.

Personalised Learning for Every Student

At St Joseph’s College Coomera, we recognise that every student learns differently. Personalised learning is central to our Year 7 program, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged, engaged and encouraged to reach their full potential – both academically and personally.
Our teachers work closely with students to support growth, build confidence and foster a love of learning that will continue throughout their secondary years.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Year 7 students have access to a wide range of extracurricular opportunities that complement their classroom learning. From sport and music to creative clubs and leadership pathways, students are encouraged to explore their passions, develop new skills, and build confidence in a variety of settings.
These experiences play an important role in helping students discover their interests and develop a strong sense of identity and belonging within the school community.

Wellbeing and Pastoral Care at the Heart of Year 7

Wellbeing sits at the heart of the Year 7 experience. We believe students learn best when they feel supported, connected, and cared for.
Our dedicated Year 7 Pastoral Hub provides a welcoming and supportive space where students can connect with peers, build relationships with staff, and seek support whenever needed. Programs such as Homework Help Club offer additional guidance after school, helping students feel confident in managing their learning and responsibilities.

Supporting Future Pathways

Even in Year 7, students are encouraged to begin thinking about their future. Through our Early Careers Program, students are introduced to future-focused thinking, while opportunities such as the SPARK program allow them to explore areas of interest in greater depth and challenge themselves through rich learning experiences.
This holistic approach supports academic growth alongside emotional, social, and personal development.

A Community Built on Strong Pillars

Everything we do at St Joseph’s College Coomera is guided by our core pillars:
  • Learning and Wellbeing
  • Culture and the Arts
  • Sports and Development
Our goal is for every Year 7 student to feel a true sense of belonging and to grow into confident, creative, and compassionate young people, well prepared for the journey ahead.
