Launching Our New SIM Centre

Published 22 Jul 2026

Our Year 7 SPARK unit, Taking Flight: Engineering the Past, Navigating the Future will be taking advantage of our newly lauched SIM Centre, funded by our Parents & Friends Advisory Group.

This innovative STEM-focused program invites students to explore the fascinating world of flight through a blend of theory, hands-on learning, and future-focused problem solving. Throughout the unit, students investigate the history of transport, the science behind the forces of flight, the aviation industry as a service, drones, space travel, and emerging technologies shaping the future of transportation.

A unique feature of the program is the extensive practical experience offered through our Simulation Centre, where students spend a third of their learning time developing aviation skills using flight simulators and virtual reality technology to learn drone operation. These immersive experiences bring classroom concepts to life while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and technical skills.

The unit culminates in an authentic design challenge, where students work alongside a transport industry expert to develop and present a sustainable transport solution. Students will consider emerging technologies, environmental sustainability, and the ethical challenges facing the transport sector as they engineer innovative solutions for the future.

Taking Flight empowers students to think like engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers as they explore how technology can transform the way we move through the world.
